Mid-day Prayer and Vigil for Muslims Killed in Quebec City

Event date: Tuesday, January 31, 2017, from 1:30 PM to 1:45 PM
Location: Emmanuel College Chapel

Statement from Mark Toulouse, Principal of Emmanuel College:

“With heavy hearts, all of us at Emmanuel College, pray for the victims and their families of the shooting inside the Quebec Islamic Cultural Centre on Sunday night, and for all our Muslim sisters and brothers in Quebec City and, indeed, across the world.  Perhaps there is nothing more stark than an act of violence committed while a community is in the midst of prayer.  During these days when some government leaders in North America attempt to stoke fears and to define “undesirable” human beings by using such sweeping categories as national origin, race, and religion, we at Emmanuel College choose to stand against all such efforts designed to stoke an irrational fear of difference.  We affirm the importance of both difference and diversity and the gifts contained within them that benefit all of us as human beings. We stand in solidarity with all those across the world who exist behind walls of fear erected by those who attempt to use their own privilege and power to erect barriers between themselves and other members of our human family.  Please join us on Tuesday at 1:30 pm in the chapel for a brief prayer vigil where all of us can pause to offer prayer for the victims of the Quebec City shooting on Sunday night.”
