Dr. Thomas G. Long is the Bandy Professor of Preaching at Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He received his BA and MDiv from Erskine Seminary and his PhD from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1980. He began his career as a preacher at McElroy Presbyterian Church near Atlanta, Georgia, and since that time has taught at a number of seminaries, including Princeton and Candler. He served on the Cathedral College Program Board and was a frequent faculty member of the College.

In 1996, Dr. Long was named one of the 12 most effective preachers in the English speaking world by Baylor University, along with the likes of Billy Graham, James Forbes, and Barbara Brown Taylor. He was ordained by the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and currently his ordination is being held by the PCUSA.

Dr. Long’s field is in homiletics and he is a strong proponent of the two pillars of preaching: strong exegetical work held alongside with strong presentation skills.

His most recent books are Testimony: Talking Ourselves into Being Christian and Accompany Them with Singing: The Christian Funeral.

 

The Rev. Dr. Anthony Bailey originally from Barbados, is Coordinating Minister at Parkdale United Church in Ottawa. Anthony has degrees in Social Work, theology, philosophy of religion, and ethics and culture. He has taught at the theological schools of McGill University and of the University of the West Indies in Jamaica. He has been a guest lecturer at the University of Ottawa, Queen’s Theological College, and teaches at the Ottawa School of Theology and Spirituality.

Anthony has served congregations in Kenya, Jamaica and various parts of Canada. He has training in intercultural competence, has chaired the UCC Racial Justice Advisory Committee for six years, and is a racial justice/anti-racism trainer. He is married to Wendy – an environmental engineer – and they have four children.

                                                                                                   

The Rev. Dr. Emily K. (Rodgers) Bisset has served as minister of Knox Presbyterian Church in Oshawa for five years. She was ordained in the PC (USA) and came to Toronto in 2000 to pursue advanced degree studies in homiletics. She earned her ThD from Knox College in 2007 and wrote a dissertation entitled Solid Food: The Integration of The Theology of Sanctification and Homiletics to Nurture Congregational Preaching.

Emily has taught as adjunct faculty at Knox College in homiletics, and has offered courses in lay education in Reformed Worship and Preaching. Emily is the coordinator of worship for the Presbyterian Church in Canada's General Assembly in June 2012. She and her husband have a 17 month old daughter, Rachel, who keeps them busier than all these activities combined.
