This one day workshop will explore spiritual life writing as a means of engaging creatively with the challenges of meaning making in everyday life. It will look at how spiritual life writing has developed to the present day and the course leader will share examples of her own work in the genre. An important focus of the day will be writing exercises offering participants the opportunity to engage with spiritual reflection upon their experience. The event will be participatory and provide a reflective space for personal learning and creative expression.
This Emmanuel College Continuing Education workshop will be led by Heather Walton, Professor of of Theology and Creative Practice and Director of Literature, Theology and the Arts at the University of Glasgow. Walton has higher degrees in both social research and creative writing and her research interests lie in the field of practice-based theological reflection and spiritual life writing. She is the author of Writing Methods in Theological Reflection (2014) and Not Eden: Spiritual Life Writing for This World (2015).
