Public Lecture: The Platform Sutra

You are warmly invited to a lecture titled, "The Platform Sutra" by Venerable Yan Ben from the Dharma Drum Mountain Buddhist Association.

This lecture will describe the concept of no thought, no form, non abiding and Buddha nature, in addition to being an introduction to the life and philosophy of Hueneng, the Sixth Patriarch of Chan, with a particular focus on Hueneng's story and his perspectives of meditation.

Before his ordination in 2014, Yan Ben Fashi had been volunteering at Dharma Drum Mountain in Taiwan for over ten years. During this time, he obtained his PhD in Sociology from the University of Manchester, UK. The topic of his doctoral dissertation was Chinese Buddhist Moral Practices in Everyday Life: Dharma Drum Mountain, Volunteering and the Self. In 2016, Yan Ben Fashi came to the United States from Taiwan to become a resident teacher at Dharma Drum Retreat Center. 

The talk will be delivered in English and is an Emmanuel Buddhist Continuing Education event.
