·Principal Toulouse and Anver Emon (Faculty of Law) received a Connaught Fellowship from the University of Toronto Connaught Research Committee ($50,000) to host a Summer Institute on Islamic Studies: “Belonging, Difference, and Research Methodology,” August 12-22, 2013 (see www.csiis.ca). Twelve international doctoral students were brought in from places like Indonesia, Malaysia, Germany, South Africa, Pakistan, Bulgaria, Belgrade, and the United States to participate in the Seminar. Partnerships for the institute were developed with the following Muslim groups in Toronto: the Ahmadiyya Muslim Communithy of Canada; the El-Tawhid Juma Circle; the Islamic Institute of Toronto; the Islamic Shia Ithna-Asheri Jamaat of Toronto; and the Unionville Islmaili Jamaatkhana.

·“The Qur’an and Its Interpretation in the Canadian Context,” with Dr. Walid Saleh, Professor of Islamic Studies, U of T, January 21, 28, February 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2014.

·Emmanuel College received a $5,000 Grant from the Center for the Study of Jewish-Christian-Muslim Relations (Merrimack College, US) to fund the development and teaching of an interfaith course, titled “Intertwined Texts: Bible and Qur’an in Dialogue” – the course was developed by Nevin Reda in the Fall 2013, and taught in the Winter term 2014.

·“Violence Against Women: A Workshop for Community Engagement,” Emmanuel hosted this workshop for CCMW (The Canadian Council of Muslim Women), Instructors: Usma Qureshi and Nina Karachi Khaled, May 24th.
