Bruce Gregersen was ordained a minister of the United Church of Canada in 1976. He has served in congregational ministry in Labrador, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Hamilton, Ontario. From 1994 - 2003 Bruce served a dual role as the national church’s Interfaith Secretary and as Area Secretary for South Asia, the Pacific Islands and the Middle East. As the Interfaith Officer he provided guidance to the church on theological issues in interfaith relations and offered support to local, national and international interfaith organizations. He was the lead staff in the development of a major resource on the relationship of the United Church to Islam and a contributor to the documents on United Church Jewish relationships, Aboriginal relations and the foundational ecumenical document, Mending the World. As Area Secretary, Bruce worked closely with partners in South Asia, the Pacific and Israel/Palestine. A significant area of focus through this time was on Middle East issues and relationships.
From 2003 Bruce has served as the senior program officer of The United Church of Canada. In his role he coordinates and supports the Canadian and Global programs units of the church with particular care for the theological foundations of that work. Bruce serves as lead staff to the Theology and InterChurch InterFaith Relations Committee.
Bruce has a Doctor of Ministry degree, from the Toronto School of Theology, exploring the church’s native apology and its relationship to an understanding of mission.
