The Advanced Degree programs are awarded jointly by Emmanuel College and the University of Toronto and are administered by the Toronto School of Theology (TST). TST is an ecumenical federation of theological colleges: Emmanuel College, Knox College, Regis College, St. Augustines Seminary, University of St. Michael's College Faculty of Theology, University of Trinity College Faculty of Divinity and Wycliff College.
Students have a home college, such as Emmanuel, but enjoy the rewards, services and resources available at the Toronto School of Theology and University of Toronto. For more information about admissions and applications. The deadline to apply for Advanced Degree programs is January 7th.
Areas of Study
Because of Emmanuel's affiliation with the Toronto School of Theology and the University of Toronto, students have access to faculty throughout the university of Toronto. Interdisciplinary studies are encouraged. Emmanuel College's strengths:
The ThM provides advanced, specialized study following a MDiv, MTS, or other first degree in theology. In it there are three alternative streams:
Option I includes six courses (four courses in an area of major interest and one courage each in two other areas) and a thesis of at least 12,500 words, and can prepare students for doctoral study and some forms of teaching.
Option II includes eight courses and an extended major paper. This option provides opportunities for scholarly enhancement of the practice of ministry or disciplined reflection on a specialized function in ministry. It is a terminal degree and does not provide the basis for entry into a Toronto School of Theology doctoral program.
The ThM in Pastoral Counselling (an Option II ThM) includes two years of full-time study or its equivalent and an extended essay during the second year. In this program, students will simultaneously complete the requirements for the ThM degree and the CAPPE prerequisites for certification as a Specialist PCE. It is desinged for people who want to practice a specialized ministry or who wish to serve as a parish minister with specialized counselling skills.

Doctor of Ministry (DMin)
The DMin is a professional doctoral program providing advanced study for persons who are engaged in the practice of ministry in its varied forms. The program welcomes applicants, lay and ordained, from the ministries of congregational leadership, religious education, preaching, worship, pastoral care, hospital chaplaincy, and other forms of ministerial leadership. Students take the program on a part-time basis while integrating it with their ongoing ministry practice.
The program is offered in a distance learning model making the degree available to persons living across Canada and beyond our borders. This model of the degree is based on a flexible delivery system which includes both an e-learning bases and intensive on-campus learning experiences. The strength of the cohort learning experience will be established through face to face study on campus and strengthened through an online learning community. Ongoing interaction will be maintained between the student in their ministry environment, teaching faculty and the seminary.

The ThD develops competencies that enable students to make original contributions to theological scholarship and advance theological understanding for the sake of the church, academy and society. The program requires two years of full-time study on site, followed by a period of post-residential study (full-time or part-time).
The program consists of four stages: coursework and language preparation; comprehensive examinations; the preparation of a thesis proposal; and the writing and defense of a thesis. The ThD program is intended primarily to equip persons for vocations of teaching and research in theological schools, colleges and universities, or for the scholarly enhancement of ministry practice.
The graduate Entrance Awards are offered to the best Canadian and international doctoral students applying for the ThD program. These award packages in the amount of $22,000 CAD per year are renewable for up to four years of study. These awards will consist of one or more of the following funding sources: awards, scholarships, fellowships or graduate assistantships.

Degree Programs Conferred by The University of St. Michael's College
Master of Arts in Theology (MA)
The Master of Arts in Theology fosters graduate level competence in several areas of theological study and more advanced expertise in a student's area of interest. The student achieves personal enrichment and is prepared for further study at the doctoral level. The M.A. requires no previous studies in theology and is therefore suitable for students who may lack a formal academic theological education but who wish to pursue docotral studies in theology. The M.A. may be taken on an entirely part-time basis.

The Doctor of Philosophy in Theology program is intended primarily to equip persons for vocations of teaching and researching in theological schools, colleges and universities, for for the scholarly enhancement of ministerial practice. Admission is highly selective and is limited to students who have completed a recognized master's degree in theology with first-class standing, and normally with a thesis. In addition, entering students must be fluent in English and must be competent in at least one other research language.
