VWA | The Magic and Beauty of Endpapers

Feb. 22, 2023 2:00p.m.

A collage featuring the text The Magic and Beauty of Endpapers.

Join the Victoria Women's Association (VWA) for this lecture featuring Iona Whatford, Vic alumna and winner of the Hoeniger Book Collection Prize 2021. Iona Whatford graduated from Victoria College in 2021, where she majored in history and minored in material culture and french. In her final year at Vic, Whatford completed an independent study where she developed a typology for the classification of endpapers. Whatford theorized how authors, publishers, and book designers utilize the endpaper spaces to communicate to the reader through the different endpaper types that present themselves. Presently, Whatford is the museum manager at the Cottonwood Mansion in Selkirk, Ontario. She continues to be fascinated with books, paratext and the beauty and magic of endpapers.

This is a joint virtual meeting with Friends of the Victoria University Library.
